The REKO ring is a Norvegian sales channel for locally produced food - directly to the customer from the farmer and food craftsman. REKO-ringen is a sales channel for local food where buying and selling takes place on Facebook. Customers pre-order items via the ring's joint Facebook group. The goods are delivered by the manufacturer at the ring's advertised delivery point, date and time.
REKO stands for REttfinished KOnsum and is a trading phenomenon founded by Thomas Snellman in Finland in 2013. The sales phenomenon REKO is the sale of food without intermediaries, where the manufacturer itself is responsible for production and sales, and receives 100% of the sales price!
The first REKO ring in Norway was established in November 2017. As of February 2022, there are over 140 rings spread across much of the country. There are around 500,000 customers associated with the REKO rings, and over 600 manufacturers selling goods.
No intermediaries and consequences of too many milestones in the distirbution channel
Without intermediaries: Sales are made directly from those who produce the goods to the consumer. The goods you buy at REKO you buy straight from the farmer or food craftsman! In this way, you can ask questions about how the product is produced, what any animal husbandry is like, how large the production is and anything else you may be wondering about. Pre-ordered items: The goods ordered and sold in REKO are pre-ordered. The idea behind this was that it should be predictable for the food producer. With pre-ordered goods, the manufacturer knows how much is sold on delivery and how much needs to be harvested and packed for delivery. Permanent delivery at a fixed place and time: The customer and manufacturer meet at an agreed place at the agreed time. Often the REKO rings have a fixed interval of every two weeks or once a month. Free for manufacturers: The sales concept should be free to use. In this way, the producers will be left with the entire profit on the goods and sales. Those who deliver at REKO have, in addition to producing the goods, the entire workload of advertising, ordering, packing, administration and delivery of the goods.
